I have many art books in my collection at home – because as an artist, you can never have too many reference points to draw inspiration from! I bought this book quite a long time ago when I was living in South Africa – it has a hard cover but interior pages are spiral bound. This book has become my ‘go to’ whenever I am looking for colour inspiration and to help narrow down exact color choices, taking the guess work out of it.
The book is divided into four parts:
- The rules of the color game, which details how color works, as well as color and design
- Color Strategies, which discusses the seven contrasts of color and creating color harmony
- Game Plan – getting your palette loaded, color choices and color schemes
- Let the games begin – how to make color sing.
This book is choc full of color illustrations, examples of paintings where the rules have been followed or broken! And the narrative, whilst instructional, is not pompous.
